Earth Day Art Installation at The Gateway

Earth Day Art Installation at The Gateway

The Gateway will commemorate Earth Day with a new, limited-time art installation in designated windows entitled, Pre-Packaged Couture: High Fashion Great Value! The work consists of a hand-sewn haute couture fashion line made entirely from various types of repurposed plastic bags and packaging by Utah artist, Adah Bennion. It will be complete on April 17 in time for the April 21 Gallery Stroll. The installation will be on view for a month at The Gateway.

Pre-Packaged Couture: High Fashion, Great Value! features locally sourced repurposed plastic bags, packaging, and containers that have been collected from various Salt Lake City communities. All materials used to make this fashion line and window installations were collected and saved by the artist and would have otherwise ended up in the landfill.

Jacklyn Briggs, The Gateway’s Director of Marketing, says, “We were drawn to Adah’s work because of the compelling way it encourages us to reimagine our relationship to the excess and waste we generate daily and to reevaluate the potential of everyday materials around us. We’re excited to give Adah a – a public space to showcase her creativity and compelling message as she displays her final BFA exhibition in this unique way.”
