Craft Lake City is thrilled to announce the second class in the New Americans Workshop Series: Intro to Henna Body Art with Jawaher Designs! Each craft workshop in this series will be taught by makers from around the globe who’ve made Utah their home due to humanitarian crises in their countries of origin. This series of six workshops, running from November 2022 through April 2023, is made possible with the support of the International Rescue Committee and funding from the Salt Lake Arts Council.
On Thursday, December 15, 2022, Jawaher Fadhel will be teaching an Intro to Henna Body Art Workshop at the Craft Lake City HQ from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. In this introductory hands-on workshop participants will learn the fundamentals of henna body art as they create gorgeous temporary tattoos on their own skin. Attendees will first learn how to mix fresh henna (using a powder derived from the flowering henna plant) to achieve the perfect natural orange to red brownish color. They will then learn the right way of holding the henna cones to achieve fine detail work as they pipe their designs. Jawaher will teach participants how to make simple, eye-catching flower designs using this natural, botanical dye.
