Dr. Yu-Jane Yang, a local piano teacher from Ogden, UT, has been inducted into the Steinway & Sons Teacher Hall of Fame, a prestigious designation recognizing the work of North America’s most committed and passionate piano educators. 2021 marks the second class of honorees, following the Hall of Fame’s inaugural class in 2019.

Dr. Yu-Jane Yang is a Presidential Distinguished Professor, Director of Keyboard Studies, and Director of the Piano Preparatory Program at Weber State University in Utah. Dr. Yang also served as the Artistic Director of the Sid and Mary Foulger International Strings and Piano Music Festival in 2013 and 2014, and as the State President of Utah Music Teachers Association in 2002-2004. Yu-Jane received her doctoral degree with the highest honor from the University of Michigan (Ann Arbor). She served as the faculty collaborative pianist for the American String Workshop at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, and for the Classical Music Festival in Austria. She is the pianist of the Wasatch Piano Trio, the Weber State University Faculty Piano Trio, and the Formosan Violin-Piano Duo. In demand as a clinician, presenter, performing artist, and piano master class teacher both nationally and internationally, Dr. Yang has performed in concert tours and given numerous piano workshops and piano master classes in Austria, Poland, Norway, Spain, Italy, Canada, Singapore, China, Taiwan, the Philippines, and the United States. Founded by John Daynes in 1862, Daynes Music is the oldest continuously run family business in Utah. They are Utah’s exclusive Steinway dealership and have been since 1873. Now in their 157th year, they actively support music education and promote music technologies.

This fall, 44 teachers from the United States and Canada were inducted into the Steinway Teachers Hall of Fame with special events hosted at the historic Steinway factory in New York City. Each teacher inducted into the Hall of Fame was nominated by a Steinway & Sons showroom in the teacher’s home region. The teachers’ names are now displayed on a commemorative display wall inside the iconic factory.

“Music education has been a cornerstone of our historic company since the late 1800s, and today is no different,” said Gavin English, President of Steinway & Sons Americas. “We are very proud to work with the talented music educators inducted this fall into the Steinway & Sons Teacher Hall of Fame. These teachers foster passion, creativity, and discipline in the next generation of piano artists. Their work deserves the highest praise.”
