Soldier Hollow Nordic Center Hosts Schutzenski Festival

Utah Olympic Legacy Foundation

Soldier Hollow Nordic Center has been hosting fall training camps for years – inviting top athletes as they prepare for their winter seasons. The Schutzenski Fall Festival—which originally began as a week of training for cross-country and biathlon athletes—has evolved into a celebration of the fall season involving the community with a 5-mile running/walking race, public biathlon, and beer garden.

Top cross-country and biathlon athletes will be competing as they prepare for a busy winter season culminating with the Olympic Winter Games in Beijing in February. Two-time Olympian, PyeongChang 2018 gold medalist and 2021 World Cup Champion Jessie Diggins will compete in the cross-country roller ski races, headlining a field of top U.S. cross-country athletes. Plus, two-time Olympic biathlete and 2020 World Championship silver medalist, Susan Dunklee, will be skiing alongside other biathlon national team members as they compete to qualify for the 2021-22 World Cup season. The University of Utah ski team will also compete including 2020 Junior World Championship Team Relay silver medalist and Park City’s own Sydney Palmer-Leger.

On October 23, the Schutzenski Festival opens with a 5-mile fun run/walk on the Olympic trails starting at 8:00 AM followed with elite-level biathlon and cross-country roller ski races throughout the morning. A head-to-head Wild West Shooting competition will begin at 12:00 PM followed with open biathlon and ski races in the afternoon. Bohemian Brewery will be providing beer throughout the competition. Spectators are invited to learn more about the sport of biathlon with discover biathlon sessions on the Olympic range. The event is free for spectators but those wanting to compete in the 5-mile race or discover biathlon session are encouraged to register in advance.
