Soldier Hollow Sheepdog Classic Returns September 3-6

Soldier Hollow Sheepdog Classic Returns September 3-6

The Soldier Hollow Classic Sheepdog Championship and Festival presented by your Utah Toyota Dealers returns to the Heber Valley on Labor Day weekend from September 3 through September 6, 2021.

The centerpiece of this fun, family-friendly event is the championship sheepdog trial featuring world-class dogs and handlers testing themselves on Soldier Hollow’s Olympic Hillside. Working up to 400 yards from their handler – these dogs must gather wild range Rocky Mountain ewes, bringing them down the mountainside along a precise course. The process ends in front of the stands where the dog must separate certain sheep from others and then guide the sheep into a small pen. The work is judged for quality and care of the sheep and must be completed in just 13 minutes. Each shepherd must build a nearly telepathic rapport with their dog to achieve a high score.

Along with the sheepdog trial, the Soldier Hollow Classic hosts numerous other activities and attractions — including agility dog shows, sheepdog training demonstrations, exotic raptor shows, highland games strength competitions, bagpipe performances, and local food, drink and souvenir vendors — all adding to the exciting atmosphere over Labor Day weekend.
