The Utah Museum of Contemporary Art will host its annual fundraising Gala on Saturday, Oct. 24, at 6:30 pm at the museum.
The Gala’s theme—Brave New World—takes its inspiration from the profound shift of daily life in 2020 and looks forward to a world that, in many ways, will never be the same. The menu, decor, and music at the Gala all work to lean into this new reality. The event’s planner, Gary Vlasic of V. Project, describes the overall feel of Brave New World as one which “safely and responsibly protects our guests while looking for interesting and provocative ways to have fun within the restraints.” An example of this is Vlasic’s design for plexiglass panels on each table that act as sculptural supports for floral arrangements and dividers between guests.
The Blended Table is developing a bespoke menu for the event, focusing on plant-based courses and clean architectural presentations. Utah-based musician, Joshy Soul, who will perform at this year’s Gala, will provide a contrast to the visual aesthetic of the event with his unique brand of smooth yet soulful and danceable music. Each attendee will receive an editioned print by Utah-based artist Levi Jackson included with their ticket.
UMOCA’s annual Gala usually draws 250 attendees and raises, on average, 10% of the museum’s yearly income, making it UMOCA’s single largest fundraising event. The event usually takes place in June but had to be rescheduled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This year’s Gala will be capped at 60 attendees to ensure social distancing can be practiced in the museum and to comply with Salt Lake County’s guidelines on indoor events. Those who aren’t yet comfortable attending the Gala in person can purchase a Brave@Home ticket and have dinner delivered to them.
This year’s Gala is co-chaired by Elizabeth Shaw and Cynthia McLoughlin of Park City. Both Shaw and McLoughlin are members of the museum’s board.
All proceeds from the Gala will support museum programming, which serves more than 60,000 children, students, teachers, and adults each year.
Corporate sponsorships are still available. Individual table sponsorships and tickets are available by calling 801.328.4201 x 113 or by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org. Tickets are also available at utahmoca.org/gala.
