Publik, already a sought-after staple of the Salt Lake community, will play a key part in INDUSTRY SLC with the opening of a new cafe, Publik Works, this March. Located within INDUSTRY SLC’s Granary location, the cafe will serve the general public and tenants of the 200-thousand square foot office space.

“Our partnership with Publik is a cornerstone of what we are building in Salt Lake City,” says co-founder of INDUSTRY, Ellen Winkler. “With Publik’s well-earned reputation as a community connector along with our commitment to creating an energetic and intentional workspace, we are excited to open INDUSTRY SLC’s doors with Publik Works,” she adds.

INDUSTRY SLC is revitalizing the site of a former steel foundry on the north side of the Granary District, turning 8.3 acres of industrial warehouse space into office space and shared tenant amenities such as conference rooms, kitchens, event space, and a roof deck. The first phase of the project includes 100-thousand square feet and several tenants to be announced in the months to come.

“INDUSTRY’s concept is fully in sync with our vision for Publik Works,” says Missy Greis, Founder & Owner of Publik.  “Jason, Ellen and I share a sensibility for intuitive decision-making, risk-taking, and believing that ‘if you build it right, they will come.’ We are honored to be part of this evolving neighborhood.”

The Winklers’ design of the space has seamlessly matched Publik’s clean, urban aesthetic, while Publik applies its expertise to the menu, the coffee and the cafe operations. The partners’ mutual trust is apparent in their enthusiasm to welcome the community to their new gathering place.

Founded in 2014, Publik’s focus on craft coffee, local products and community has already helped to transform their flagship location’s area at the juncture of Ballpark and Central 9th. Publik is Dutch for “community” or “gathering,” an ethos that Publik’s founder and owner Missy Greis shares with INDUSTRY founders, Jason and Ellen Winkler.

The Winklers began their community-driven adaptive reuse projects in Denver, Colorado. INDUSTRY now has two locations in Denver, with a combined 330-thousand square feet of workspace offering quality restaurants and living options close by. In Utah, they saw INDUSTRY as a perfect fit in Salt Lake City where booming economic opportunity is integrated with the elements of mountain lifestyle.  Partnering on INDUSTRY SLC with the Winklers is Brandon Blaser, a Salt Lake City native.
“INDUSTRY SLC will create office space that integrates work and lifestyle—and will allow our team to create the best INDUSTRY project yet.  We are excited to be in The Granary and thrilled to be there with Publik Works,” says co-founder of INDUSTRY, Jason Winkler.
