Park City Chamber awarded for meeting planning excellence

Park City Chamber of Commerce

In 2018, Park City’s Group Sales/Meetings team won a Bronze Stella Award, naming the Bureau as one of the top three in the Southwest. The 2019 Stella Awards were released this week, and, once again, the Park City Chamber/Bureau was awarded a top-three medal, receiving the Bronze Stella Award, as voted by meeting and event planners for skill and responsiveness in assisting planners with their event needs.

Literally thousands of votes were cast from around the world for 278 destinations, hotels and service providers nominated in 18 categories in six regions in the United States and worldwide, spotlighting the very best hotels, convention centers, conference centers, convention and visitor bureaus, destination marketing organizations, destination management companies, airlines and cruise lines. A 14-member judging panel, including meetings industry leaders Gary Schirmacher of Experient, Terri Breining and others, vetted the final tabulations. In the category of Best CVBs/DMOs in the Southwest, Park City’s Chamber/Bureau received a Bronze Award, trailing only the Denver CVB and the bureau at Ft. Worth, Texas.  This year, Park City surpassed both Colorado Springs and the Salt Lake CVB, along with the two bureaus that had outranked Park City last year – the Phoenix CVB and the bureau at Irving, Texas.  Others recognized with Bronze Awards included the Convention Bureaus of Honolulu (Hawaii), Aruba and Raleigh (North Carolina).

Winners were recognized for achieving overall excellence, professionalism of staff, technology innovations, and other critical aspects of the meetings and event experience.  “I am exceptionally proud of our team here in Park City,” notes Tonya Sweeten, Vice President of Group Sales. “Our destination is growing in prestige amongst meeting planners worldwide, but it is our team members who position Park City with world-class professionalism and allow planners to realize our town is a viable option for their meetings and events.”  Bill Malone, CEO of the Park City Chamber/Bureau continues, “Being voted by planners worldwide as one of the best Bureaus in the country speaks volumes about the work being done in Park City on a daily basis. These groups are especially important because the majority meet in the Summer and Fall, outside of our popular winter ski season, keeping local employment strong all year long.”

“A Stella Award is the finest symbol of excellence for suppliers in the meetings industry,” said Lori Cioffi, senior vice president and chief content director for the Northstar Meetings Group. “Meeting planning is a methodical process, and attention to detail is a critical factor for success. We’ve brought that ethic to the Stella Awards. It’s a competitive, year-long nomination and evaluation process to identify and honor excellence in the meetings industry. This year’s winners are a stellar class.”
