As The Gateway, Utah’s premier community gathering place for entertainment and art, fulfills its vision for the renaissance of the property, they have unveiled a new large-scale mural by Arizona-based muralist, Gina Ribaudo. Titled “The Legends of Rock.” The stunning artwork features portraits of Mick Jagger, Freddie Mercury, David Bowie, Jimi Hendrix, John Lennon, Prince, Jim Morrison, Janis Joplin and David Bowie.

Ribaudo’s first Utah art installation joins more than 30 murals, digital, interactive and pop-up arts and culture experiences at The Gateway. The new mural adorns the wall outside California Pizza Kitchen off 400 West and 200 South and sits opposite Wiseguys Comedy Club and the all new Lounge at Wiseguys, where the artist has been commissioned to paint an additional mural of comedy icon Don Rickles.

Gina is a self-taught artist and started her own painting company 25 years ago, ILOVEMURALS.com. She has been drawing and painting since she was 5 years old. Her natural talent, passion and professionalism has made her one of Arizona’s top muralists.

Always fascinated with portrait painting, she painted her first portrait five years ago. Her unique, contemporary style developed due to her love of color and expressive brush strokes. Each portrait is spontaneously developed so none are alike. She loves to paint large-scale, iconic portraits in rich, saturated color. Working in acrylic, she is known to paint with palette knives, spatulas and with her hands. Her portraits are displayed in art galleries around Arizona, at The Tempe Marketplace and now at The Gateway in Salt Lake City. She enjoys doing live painting and chalk art for events.

“I love how the eyes are the window to the soul, so I strive to captures that in each portrait. I had such fun painting the great legends of rock,” says Ribaudo. “I am passionate about painting and can’t imagine doing anything else for a career.”

“As a large part of our comeback, we’ve undertaken sweeping public art projects. With all our public events and live music, we think this new Legends of Rock mural is great fit,” says Jacklyn Briggs, marketing director for The Gateway. “We continue to envision The Gateway as one of Salt Lake’s finest open-air art galleries. We encourage everyone to come see all the big changes!”
