Utah’s T.A. Barker re-elected to board of directors

T.A. Barker, superintendent at Fore Lakes Golf Course in Taylorsville, Utah, was re-elected to the board of directors for the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America (GCSAA) at the association’s annual meeting, Feb. 7, 2019, in San Diego. 

He was first elected to the board in 2018.

GCSAA is a leading golf organization in the United States. Its focus is on golf course management, and since 1926 GCSAA has been the top professional association for the men and women who manage golf courses in the U.S. and worldwide. From its headquarters in Lawrence, Kan., the association provides education, information and representation to more than 18,000 members in more than 78 countries.

The board sets the strategic direction for the association as it strives to serve its members, advance the profession and enhance the growth, enjoyment and vitality of the game of golf.

Barker, a certified golf course superintendent, has been at Fore Lakes since 1995 and superintendent since 2006. He is a third-generation superintendent, following in the footsteps of his father, Todd, and grandfather, Vaughn. For Lakes opened in 1974 and offers a nine-hole, executive course, nine-hole par-3 course and large practice facility.

He has an advanced turfgrass certificate from the Penn State World Campus.

The 38-year-old Barker is a 14-year member of GCSAA and a member and past president of the Utah GCSA (formerly Intermountain GCSA). He has served on several GCSAA committees and has represented Utah at National Golf Day in Washington, D.C., for the last fur years. He is sits on the executive board for the Golf Alliance of Utah. 

He and his wife, Natalie, have three sons, Peyton, Boston and Greyson, and live in West Jordan, Utah.
