SLCC Tanner Forum on social ethics hosts dream corps founder Van Jones

Salt Lake Community College’s 2018 Tanner Forum on Social Ethics is hosting Van Jones Oct. 9 at the SLCC South City Campus in the Grand Theatre, 1575 S. State Street, Salt Lake City.

Free tickets to this event are available at www.slcc.edu/tanner. Seating is first come, first served. Doors open at 6 p.m., and at 7 p.m. Jones will give a presentation, followed by a Q & A and then a book signing at 8:30 p.m. Those needing special accommodations are asked to call 801-957-4659.

Jones is president and founder of the nonprofit Dream Corps, a “justice incubator” with the goal to propagate unique solutions that “close prison doors and open doors of opportunity.” Jones has led the nonprofit civil rights advocacy group Color of Change and the Ella Baker Center for Human Rights. Jones is a Yale-educated attorney who has written three New York Times bestsellers, including “The Green Collar Economy,” “Rebuild the Dream” and “Beyond the Mess Truth: How We Came Apart, How We Come Together.” Jones was also President Barack Obama’s green jobs advisor, and he was named as one of Rolling Stone magazine’s “12 Leaders Who Get Things Done” and one of Time’s “100 Most Influential People in the World.”

Each year, the Tanner Forum on Social Ethics brings nationally and internationally recognized speakers in the area of social ethics to Salt Lake Community College. The Tanner Forum enhances the college’s mission as a community-based learning institution by providing opportunities for students, faculty, staff and the wider community to come together for the thoughtful examination of critical issues in contemporary social ethics.
